Race the Lake of the Sky Postponed Until 2017

Dear Race the Lake of the Sky Friends and Families,
The building that has housed South Tahoe Standup Paddle since 2010 has been sold and the new owner is renovating the property.  As you can imagine this has sent us scrambling to find a new location for our retail shop. The good news is that we are moving to 3135 Harrison Avenue, 2 blocks closer to El Dorado Beach.

The demands of moving and the tenant improvements required to establish business in our new location will not leave us enough time to produce Race the Lake of the Sky at the level of excellence it deserves.  Therefore, 2016 will be a "Leap Year" for Race the Lake of the Sky.  We look forward to producing the 5th annual event in 2017.

The South Tahoe SUP Series is scheduled to return for the sixth straight year on Saturday June 25th, July 30th, and August 27th.  More details to come!

Thank you for your continued support,
Chris, Jared & Robin

Are You Ready?

It's almost race day, are you ready?  We are ready for you and so excited to see all your smiling faces.  It's going to be a great weekend! Here's a couple things to remember before race day...

  • Please pre-register! This saves you time, money and helps things flow smoothly forthe registration staff and event timer. You can register online here.
  • Don't forget the pre-registration party at MacDuff's on Friday June 26th from 6:30 till 9:00pm. Enjoy a 15% discount, great food and good SUP company. It's your last chance to register before race day and still get the online pricing.

  • Don't forget your PFD!!!
  • Check the weather before you show up. Looks like chilly mornings and hot afternoons. Weather Report
  • Have fun and bring a smile!

Loving SUP means loving wildlife

One of the reasons we love SUP so much is that it gets us outdoors and interacting with nature, free from environmental impact. In Tahoe, co-existing with wild birds and animals is a way of life.  That's why we support Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a nonprofit volunteer-based organization whose function is to raise, rehabilitate and release orphaned or injured wild birds and animals.

The founders of LTWC, Tom and Cheryl Milham, have had a huge impact in South Lake Tahoe since 1978. In 36 years, more than 24,000 orphaned and injured wildlife have been provided care at the facility with over 15,000 having been returned to the wild. Without the wonderful support of the hundreds of generous volunteers and donors, LTWC’s work would not be possible.  LTWC receives no government funding and is funded only by donations.  It is our privilege to donate a portion of the proceeds from the Beer Garden/Wine Bar at Race the Lake of the Sky® to this local charity.

You can learn more about their rehabilitation efforts and even make donations at http://www.ltwc.org/
